about

When I was part of the Mariposa Songwriters group in Orillia, we were asked to each come up with a protest song. Years later, I found some notes I'd written down. This is what came out.

This song is inspired by the countless youth forgotten by the system, schools, and so-called parents--this is for the endpiece kids.

Thanks as always,
Ethan

Poem/Lyrics:
*(whispered "anti-lyrics" in brackets)*

(Endpiece Kids)

"Sun, (Son)
Hear me out,
It's been the Moon's fault,
Since the Sky fell down

Words, (Words)
I need some help,
It seems all you are with,
Is all I'm without

You leave me alone, (You)
Each and every day,
You leave me alone,
In every single way

(...Something that I've never known, something that has never owned me)

At least I'm not alone to say-- (I hope)

That your stars don't seem to shine, (They never shine)
Through 18 years of your life,
Could they somehow have passed you by? (How the hell could that happen?)
When you had felt like this inside?
And every town feels more alive, (More alive than this shithole)
When you come from the outside, (Out of where?)
You can take this and so can I, (I can't take it, I can't take it)
'Cause you were born and raised to survive

(...And I'll be there)

Sun,
Please don't shout, (Don't tell me what to do)
It's not the Moon's fault,
That Stars walked out (Then who's fault is it?)

Words, (You don't have any)
I need your help, (I can't help you)
It seems all you are with,
Is all I'm without (I'm everything)

You leave me alone, (The way you should be)
Each and every day, (The way we should be)
You leave me alone, (Because I'm an answer, because I'm a cancer)
In every single way (What are you doing to me?)

(And then I could hope for you too)

But your stars don't seem to shine, (And why would they?)
Through 19 years of your life,
Could they somehow have passed you by? (That could be)
When you had felt like shit inside? (Everyday)
And every town feels more alive, (I can't stay here)
When you come from the outside, (Help)
You can take this and so can I, (Can I take this?)
'Cause you were fuckin' made to survive (I can take this)

You, (You)
You, (You)
You, (You)
You."

Music can change the world. It's as simple as getting into a better headspace. Whether it's through your headphones, speakers, or coming out of your lungs, music can & does change you.

I put my heart in every song--music makes me feel, & that's the best part.

I hope these tunes can make you feel something too.
